A Poem by Iftekhar Sayeed

Ferryboat on the Chengi

you can't walk across
the Chengi river
in monsoon

the ferryman
finds his coin
this season

a shuttling black
hyphen
in the second
bend
of the river

connecting
the disconnect

conveying his cargo
from paradise to
paradise
